The month of Elul is coming, the last month of the year. Soon the voice of shofar will call us to repair our relations, to fix mistakes and to encourage reflection whether the road we chose this year was good, or we have to turn back from it immediately. Echoing the voice coming from the Haftarah of Seven Shabbats of Consolation, the voice of shofar suggests that it’s not too late for the repair and the Return (Teshuva) – not too late to make it before the New Year –

Congratulations to Rabbi Prof. Walter Homolka

All the upcoming month Elul we will be thinking if our choices this year were good… but we can already be very sure that one choice made recently in Germany was very good – we would like to congratulate Rabbi Professor Walter Homolka on his election to the chairman of the Union of Progressive Jews in Germany and wish him all success on this important and demanding position
– Mazal Tov!
 

Rabbi Prof. Walter Homolka is a great scholar and actvist who’s over 20 years of work for the Jewish community made significant change to the lives of progressive Jews in Germany and all over the Europe. Rabbi Homolka is rector at Abraham Geiger College, Germany’s only rabbinical seminary founded in 1999. Rabbi Homolka is also a chairman of the Leo Baeck Foundation, an executive board member of the World Union for Progressive Judaism and president of the Jewish Institute of Cantorial Arts (established by his efforts in 2007). Among great number and variety of distinctions which Rabbi Homolka holds are membership of the French Legion of Honour and „Doctor Humanarum Litterarum” honoris causa of  The Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. He is also known for his meaningful participation in Jewish – Christian dialog. His works are widely published and quoted wordlwide.

Nadchodzi miesiąc Elul, ostatni miesiąc roku. Już niedługo głos szofaru zacznie nas wołać do naprawy naszych wzajemnych relacji, naprawy błędów, skłaniać do refleksji czy wybrana przez nas droga jest dobra, czy też musimy natychmiast z niej zawrócić. Wtórując głosowi płynącemu z Haftary podczas Siedmiu Szabatów Pocieszenia, głos szofaru sugeruje, że nie jest jeszcze za późno żeby zdążyć z naprawą i powrotem (teszuwa) przed Nowym Rokiem – Dniem Sądu – Rosz HaSzana.

Serdeczne Gratulacje dla Rabina Prof. Waltera Homolki

Cały miesiąc Elul będziemy zastanawiać się czy nasze wybory były dobre. Jesteśmy jednak przekonani, że jeden wybór dokonany w ostatnim czasie w Niemczech był bardzo dobry – serdecznie gratulujemy Rabinowi Profesorowi Walterowi Homolce wyboru na stanowisko Przewodniczącego Związku Żydów Postępowych w Niemczech i życzymy samych sukcesów na tym nowym ważnym i wymagającym stanowisku – Mazal Tow!

Rabin Prof. Walter Homolka – znany naukowiec i działacz, którego ponad 20 lat działalności wywarło ogromny wpływ na życie Żydowskiej społeczności w Niemczech i życie postępowych Żydów w całej Europie. Rabin Homolka jest rektorem Abraham Geiger Kollege – jedynej szkoły rabinackiej w Niemczech, która została założona w 1999 roku w Berlinie. Rabin Homolka jest również prezesem Leo Baeck Foundation, członkiem zarządu Światowej Unii Judaizmu Postępowego oraz prezesem Instytutu Sztuki Kantorialnej (który został założony, dzięki jego staraniom, w 2007 roku). Pośród wielu odznaczeń i honorów, Rabin Homolka jest członkiem Francuskiej Legii Honorowej oraz Doktorem honoris causa Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. Jest również znany ze swojego znaczącego udziału w dialogu Żydów i Chrześcijan. Jego prace są szeroko publikowane i cytowane na całym Świecie.
